What makes you feel at home? To me, it's not least topography. I grew up in the hilly countryside in the North of the German state Baden-Wuerttemberg. Meadows, fields, forests. Alternating. No steep mountains, no flat land. Something in between. The topography noticeable, not threatening. The horizon within the range of vision. Not seemingly infinite away, not right in front of you. A countryside like here, in the south of the German state Thuringia, where I spent the Christmas holiday. I feel at home here, in this in-between-land.
Below, a topography map of Europe.
