I like day hikes. I do this regularly. Through flat Brandenburg, which is the state enclosing my residence, Berlin. Through hilly landscapes in the north of the south German state Baden-Württemberg, where I grew up. Through the steep mountain landscape of the Alps, while on vacation. I like walking. But I have never done a long hike, like several days in a row, maybe even weeks.
I think about it from time to time. It's luring. It doesn't fit into my current life, I say to myself. Maybe that's just an excuse.
Have you ever considered walking through Europe?Â
I came across the map above these days. Maybe this map is my (and your?) first step to realise such a trip.Â
The map shows the European long-distance paths (called E-paths). They form a network that traverses Europe. They link countries from North Cape to Crete and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Carpathians and the Black Sea.
If this is of interest to you, check this website; it contains everything you need to know. For example, who waymarks and maintains these paths (the European Ramblers Association). To motivate yourself, here are also some videos of people who hiked on these E-paths.Â
